Something surprising happens when we reach our beyond ourselves to help others. As we make an effort reach out to help better or change someone else's life, we actually in turn impact our lives in significant ways. This is a truth that many great men and women who've gone before us have discovered. for example...

"Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?"
Martin Luther King, Jr.

“You have not lived today until you have done something for someone who can never repay you.”
John Bunyan

“The best antidote I know for worry is work. The best cure for weariness is the challenge of helping someone who is even more tired. One of the great ironies of life is this: He or she who serves almost always benefits more than he or she who is served.”
Gordon B. Hinckley

"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me. Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?
The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me."
Parable of Jesus Christ (Matthew 25:35-40)

Past Mission Trips
2017: Republic of Georgia
We joined 30 of our brothers and sisters in Christ as they came across the border from the country of Azerbaijan to meet us in Georgia for a Christian conference. Azerbaijan is a "closed" country and Christians are often persecuted for their faith.  We learned what life as a Christian in a closed country is like, helped to facilitate discussion groups, taught a an Old Testament survey and lead a Vacation Bible School for children.

2013: Richwood, WV
First Baptist worked with World Servants in their ministry in Richwood. The team of 7th graders - adults worked alongside volunteers from across the country to assist the Richwood community in light construction work, relationship-building and leading a program for children in the community.

2010: Cap Haitien, Haiti
First Baptist sent a team of eleven people to Cap Haitien in the summer of 2010.  Working in conjunction with American Baptist International Ministries, the team helped rebuild the roofs of some dormitories at a university in Cap Haitien that had been damaged by an earthquake.

2009: Richwood, WV
Seventeen members of our congregation worked with World Servants and other church groups in one of the most impoverished areas in the nation.  Our mission team worked alongside local residents and mission teams from all over the country to do home repair, roofing, and to assist with a children's sports camp and women's ministry.

2006: Bayou La Batre, AL
During the summer of 2006, First Baptist sent a team of twenty-two short-term missionaries to the community of Bayou La Batre.  This community suffered destruction from both Hurricanes Ivan and Katrina.  Our group was involved in reconstructing homes, including roof repair, wiring, plumbing, replacing flooring and doing interior work for bathrooms

Tabitha Ministries
Tabitha Ministries is First Baptist's ladies sewing ministry.  Tabitha was a seamstress who spent her time doing good and Paul referred to her as a disciple (Acts 9:30-39).  Sewing ministry volunteers use their talents as gifts to missionaries who faithfully serve around the world. They recently provided 50 children's dresses to missionaries who will distribute them to young girls in the Congo. Locally, Tabitha Ministries also makes lap quilts for shut-ins as a reminder that they are loved and prayed for.
