Along with our yearly support of many international missionaries and local mission projects, we recently donated $10,000 to the American Baptist Churches of Ohio to provide COVID-19 pandemic assistance to Ohio ABC churches. We are also supporting two missionaries, Sydney and Eli Pierra, who have branched out from Hope Unlimited in Brazil, with $5,000 toward the purchase of a van to help transport Hope Unlimited graduates. They were with our First Baptist folks on the Brazil mission trip two years ago. At our August 2021 missions board meeting, we were able to listen to a voice message from Sydney expressing disbelief, then joy and praise to God for our contribution. |
A Message From International Ministries
February 26, 2021
Dear Pastor Dan, Your Congregation is a Ieader in generous support for overseas mission! It is my pleasure to recognize you for your generosity in 2020, which qualifies you for inclusion in the Luther Rice Society (LRS). You are among the top ten percent of congregations, foundations, and organizations giving to International Ministries for the year. Luther Rice is celebrated as a dedicated colleague and humble servant who raised financial support for Ann and Adoniram Judson and other missionaries to serve overseas and to share the good news of Jesus Christ. Inspired by Rice's passion, Baptists in America formed their first unified missionary sending effort in the U.S., the "Triennial Convention" in Philadelphia on May 21, 1814 - the date IM celebrates as our founding anniversary. The Luther Rice Society is composed of a small circle of our strongest supporters and individual donors who give at a level of $5,000 or more in a year, exhibiting a passion for mission which we believe reflects the dedication of Luther Rice. Enclosed you will find a certificate of appreciation in recognition of this exceptional generosity. We hope you will display it and inspire others to do the same. Thank you from our global servants and international partners for making global mission possible. And thank you for sharing the gospel and for serving the needs around the world in practical ways. Your selfless and sacrificial giving this past year is tremendously encouraging to us all. Welcome to the Luther Rice Society and your continuing support at the Luther Rice Society Ievel! Gratefully, Sharon Koh Executive Director /CEO |
What is the Luther Rice Society?
The Luther Rice Society recognizes leadership in annual giving to International Ministries. The gifts given by those in the LR Society are a major source of support for new or expanded programs and ministries. Donors and donor churches whose gifts to International Ministries total $5,000 or more in a calendar year are recognized. All types of giving are included, whether support for IM’s global servants, the general fund or projects. The society was launched in 2001 to encourage the support of global mission. Luther Rice (1783-1836) organized the first national Baptist Society in the United States. The society supported the first wave of missionaries sent along with Adoniram Judson to India and later to Burma. Rice returned to the U.S. in 1812 and organized support for the work of the Judsons. He dedicated the rest of his life to promote and grow the financial support needed to sustain missionaries in their countries of service.
